DCResponse’s Top 5 Powercut Precautions
Power cuts can cause untold disruption for businesses. It’s not just that the lights will go out, but the phones and computers will stop working and if you are a retailer, the card machines will stop making it cash only whilst you wait for the problem to be fixed.
The problem is that often it is not always possible to predict a power cut, but it is possible to put safeguards in place to make things easier if one does happen. This is why we have come up with 5 top precautions to take to help you to continue your trade if the lights go out:
Top 5 Powercut Precautions
1.Make sure you have a few torches and some extra batteries in a handy place and that key people know where they are
2.Have a plug in telephone that does not require electricity – or the ability to re-route your office phones to mobiles
3.Install an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system, which will safeguard your IT equipment giving you time to save any work
4.If you already have a UPS system in place, make sure that it is maintained and tested regularly so that it works when required to do so
5.For mission-critical systems, you need to invest in a
standby generator if your business cannot afford to be without power and check generate fuel levels regularly
